Negotiation & Trauma Informed Consent: The Living Document

Negotiation & Trauma Informed Consent: The Living Document

—— Tickets here ——

I’m interested in engaging with kink or rope, I found someone (even just myself) to do this thing with, and now what? How do I negotiate when I don’t even really know what I want or have a ton of experience in this thing? Where do I even begin?

-or-

Maybe you’ve been doing this for quite a while, but you haven’t explicitly thought about kink from a trauma-informed or Queer lens. This is a practice after all, and there is always a new framework to learn and grow from.

We have developed our own negotiation and informed consent living document from a Queer and trauma-informed lens over our years as kinksters. A living document is a document that is continually edited and updated, meant to be flexible to match the flow of our dynamic and ever-shifting lives. This is the one we use all the time in our own lives and want to give you some hefty base to develop out your own! In this class on trauma informed consent and negotiation for kink and shibari rope bondage, you will learn the crucial skill of navigating boundaries and discussing past traumas with sensitivity, promoting a safer and more inclusive experience within your scenes and broader kink/rope life.

We have modified our cumulative intro to shibari cumulative curriculum for in-person learning without the pressure of having to attend every class. All of our core curriculum classes have a different topic that pulls elements from previous classes, but require no prerequisites for any individual class. Come to one, a few, or all!

These classes are built to be accessible to absolute beginners, but there is something to learn for all skill levels in each class of the Bael Series. We provide technical challenges where applicable for more intermediate students and we strongly believe that having a beginner mindset is crucial to being safe and successful in rope. Our discussion and theory heavy classes are also always changing as the scene changes and we learn and grow as teachers and practitioners ourselves!

You do NOT need a partner for this class, all of the material will be demonstrated and adapted for self-tying. We will aim to provide multiple ways to achieve each tie to account for differences in bodies, mobility, and general accessibility as best we can. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support you.

Due to these accommodations and the hands-on nature of our teaching style, we have very limited capacity on our classes. Tickets are available at the door if we are not sold out on our ticketing page already.

Nerves & Safety + Components of Rope

—— Tickets here ——

Rope is an inherently dangerous activity and comes with a lot of risk that many newer folks are not aware of. Nerves are a key factor to consider, and in this class, we will go over some of the major nerves to be aware of and how injuries might show up. Safety is of paramount importance in any rope or kink practice, and we take this responsibility seriously. Informed consent is a core tenant to developing your own risk profile, and this class will give you a base to start better understanding and communicating your own risk profile.

The second half of class will focus on the features of rope. We will explore different types of rope and their uses, some ways you can care and store rope, and other techincal aspects. These elements will build into rope handling and some intention when working with rope, which will be hands on and exploratory.

We have modified our cumulative intro to shibari cumulative curriculum for in-person learning without the pressure of having to attend every class. All of our core curriculum classes have a different topic that pulls elements from previous classes, but require no prerequisites for any individual class. Come to one, a few, or all!

Non-Collapsible Single + Double Column Ties

—— Tickets here ——

It's time for the bi-annual Dual Demons 3 minute soapbox single column tie moment. Come to this class, and you’ll understand why we choose to teach non-collapsible ties on purpose and use them almost exclusively in our own tying.

In this beginner-friendly class on non-collapsible single and double column ties, you will start to learn the technical aspect of these ties. We teach, with lots of break out time, how to securely and aesthetically tie ropes around various body parts on yourself (or your partner) with guidance and attention to safety. With hands-on instruction and a supportive learning environment, you will leave feeling empowered and equipped to explore the captivating world of rope bondage.

We have modified our cumulative intro to shibari cumulative curriculum for in-person learning without the pressure of having to attend every class. All of our core curriculum classes have a different topic that pulls elements from previous classes, but require no prerequisites for any individual class. Come to one, a few, or all!

Creating a Connective Rope Scene

—— Tickets here ——

Maybe you've never touched rope before; you don't need to know anything for this class in order to start using it with intention and connection. Maybe you have the basics and technical skills, but it's feeling way too dry and robotic. Let's work on reframing and bringing you out of your head and back into your body with rope. Maybe you've been practicing for years. There's always something to learn from your peers and ways you haven't thought of connecting before, or at least there's space to work on it. This is a practice, after all.

Creating Connection in Rope

—— Tickets here ——

This is our fan favorite "fuck around and find out" class. Yeah, the one with the rubber chickens and 3D printed spikes and bandanas. We promise it will make sense (and be fun) when you come to class.

We have modified our cumulative intro to shibari cumulative curriculum for in-person learning without the pressure of having to attend every class. All of our core curriculum classes have a different topic that pulls elements from previous classes, but require no prerequisites for any individual class. Come to one, a few, or all!

This is not a formal education environment, but we encourage community. We provide a handful of books and other educational materials to borrow, as well as loaner rope if you don’t have your own. There will be a few suspension rigs, two aerial points, lots of cushions, and plenty of floor space to spread out. Cutting tool REQUIRED for any and all rope scenes (labbing and floor rope scenes included).

Monthly Rope Jams (every last Tuesday of the month):

December 29th

GUIDELINES:

COVID Precautions: Masks required except when actively engaging in a scene or eating/drinking. All participants must be vaccinated. If you test positive up to 7 days after the event, please let us know so we can inform all other attendees while maintaining your privacy.

Attire: Come as you are. We suggest something comfortable and cozy (ahem, Cass) but come in whatever outfit you like! This is absolutely a venue you can dress up for, and if you want to do some cool rope and take some fun pictures, this can be the space for that!

Location: The 418 Project is a multi-use space in which we have rented out a large space in the back for just us. The 418 Project has a front desk person that will let you in to the building and direct you to the back Large Theater. To protect your privacy, you will not check in with their front desk, but instead directly with us in the back.

Photo policy: Photos are welcome, just make sure that you have permission from everyone in the photo (INCLUDING THOSE IN THE BACKGROUND) before sending or posting anywhere. Please note we cannot guarantee full privacy in this day and age, so plan accordingly. We may have a house photographer(s) on site to take photos and will be implementing a wristband system- adapted from Twisted Windows rope jams.

Green: Anyone, including the house photographer(s), your tying partner, and other attendees (with permission) may take your photo. No one may post without your explicit consent.

Yellow: Only the house photographer and people you delegate may take your photo.

Red: NOONE, including the house photographer, may take your photo. If we see someone taking your photo, even your tying partner, we will approach them and ask them to immediately delete the photos.

Building a Rope Scene

—— Tickets here ——

Join the Demons for the Bael Series, their drop-in shibari rope bondage core curriculum for all levels. Explore the world of how to build a rope scene and dive deeper into the practical, emotional, and physical flow of developing your own scene.

Creating Connection in Rope - Bael Series Core Curriculum

This is our fan favorite "fuck around and find out" class. Yeah, the one with the rubber chickens and 3D printed spikes and bandanas. We promise it will make sense (and be fun) when you come to class.

ICONS: Black Women Illuminated

Tickets here

✨ ICONS: Black Women Illuminated ✨

A cabaret-style performance celebrating the legacy of 20th-century Black women artists.

This evocative tribute is more than a show. It is a living testament to Black women who broke barriers, redefined artistic expression, and asserted their rightful place in history. It is a ceremony of remembrance and a passing of the torch, illuminating the path forward for the generations to come.

Through a dynamic fusion of song, dance, aerial artistry, burlesque, and spoken word, this all-Black women and gender-expansive cast from across California brings to life a vibrant, embodied exploration of lineage, liberation, and unapologetic creative power. Interwoven throughout the show, short documentary films reveal the artists' reflections on their inspirations and journeys, reminding us to honor our own voices.

🎷 One Night Only

The velvet-lit speakeasy opens its doors, with live jazz from the Mo'Zaic Band ushering us back in time as we travel through a kaleidoscope of eras and inspirations. Dress to the nines and experience a ritual of connection: to yourself, to each other, and to the foremothers who came before.

Nerves & Safety + Components of Rope - Bael Series Core Curriculum

Negotiation & Trauma Informed Consent - The Living Document - Bael Series Core Curriculum

I’m interested in engaging with kink or rope, I found someone (even just myself) to do this thing with, and now what? How do I negotiate when I don’t even really know what I want or have a ton of experience in this thing? Where do I even begin?
